Welcome

Welcome welcome... and thank you for coming.

Hello... from the header it would seem obvious that this blog is not going to have a purpose other than to be here, for my thoughts, feelings, whatever. Nonetheless i'm certainly excited about the possibilities that present themselves given this new platform to express myself.

First and foremost, music. if you've been listening to hip hop then you obviously know that both Kanye West and Fifty Cent released there albums tuesday, Sept. 11. To be quite honest i got up caught in the great hype or marketing machine of "Kanye vs. Fifty". But thanks to J smooth and Ill doctrine, i regained perspective and composure.

Obviously being a hip hop fan and in a sincere attempt to be fair and unbiased. I have listened to both albums.

In "Curtis" Fifty Cent offers the same fare that got him notice in the first place as far as I'm concerned. The album has got some nice production and he's got nice featured artist. My personal favorite is Follow My Lead featuring Robin Thicke. Nonetheless Fifty's album doesn't deviate from his other two albums much. He's still rappin about bitches, gettin money and being a ruthless individual. Which, I'm not mad at. Fifty has a clear business model, rap about "gangsta" shit, and sell a "gangsta" lifestyle, occasionally throw in a sentimental song for the ladies. This seems to work for him. Needless to say i don't support his particular vision but whatever works for him. Is this album edifying? NO. emphatically no, but is it entertaining? why not? if you like "the Massacre" i don't see why you won't like "Curtis".

Now onto "Graduation", Kanye's third installment of his career. How would i describe it? hmmmm... well put together. While the album doesn't have one particular theme, it flows very nicely. the production is top notch, something Kanye can always rest his hat on when his lyricism falls flat. He gives us more of the soul samples he helped make famous in songs like "THe Glory" and "Champion". My favorite " Flashing Lights" has Kanye expounding the difficulties of living his life in front of the media. THe chorus sung by Dwele, who is also featured in Common's "The People", is amazing. The track directly after "Everything I Am" shows Kanye's introspective side. I especially like the line "I never rock a mink coat in the wintertime like Killa Cam/ or rock some mink boots in the summertime like Will.I.Am". The whole album is a very strong effort.

that's all for now...

was that fair? i doubt it
I tried though
