This should be graduation, and i should be celebrating, instead I'm stuck here waiting another year as the monolithic Spurs refused to pass the torch last night. Selfish bastards that they are. I wrote this post today and not last night mostly because i couldn't stomach watching the spurs win AGAIN; and this piece might have been like so many others, railing vociferously against the draconian, ennui-inducing affair that is watching Spurs basketball. Basically i went Mike Tyson on this post ala his "I'm on Zoloft to keep me from killing yall!" phase.
Instead i choose to admit today that the Spurs much as i hate them are a distinguished, accomplished group of warriors. Defending Champions though they are, I always get the feeling that they don't deserve to win, time and time again I am proved wrong..Yesterday, watching the second half as the Hornets languished in the half court set, which they had dominated so well in previous games, I felt the ancient bloodlust my ancestors must have felt as they watched a giant opportunity slip through the cracks. I should mention i have no particular allegiance to Chris Paul, Tyson Chandler, David West, the City of New Orleans or any other potentially arcane or inane connection. I love to watch "good" basketball. That is ball movement, unparalleled showmanship, Ooops as the psuedo pick& roll etc... Alas, poor Nawlins there's always next year. this could rightfully be the catastrophic experience necessary to bring this team to greatness. Like Jordan facing the Pistons, or the Lakers falling to the Jazz in their heyday. While being on the cusp of greatness is not greatness in and of itself , its damn exciting. Watching the Hornets dismantle the Mavs and win the first two games large Vs. the dreaded Pops was nothing if not cathartic. Basketball has seen yet another Bellepheron to the dreaded Chaemera . Still its Obama time, so of course Hope springs eternal.
